Shadow in the forest @ Echo’s Equestrian

Friday evening saw our first Painting and prosecco night at Echo’s Equestrian Centre in Iver.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say there were some pre-event nerves, but I really needn’t have worried as everything went wonderfully.

I had chosen Shadow In The Forest as my first subject. A stylised woodland scene of 3-5 colours.

One of the things I am striving to do with these sessions is to introduce at least one piece of art theory or technique into each one. My aim is that each of the artist can leave with new knowledge that they can apply to their own art or can help them appreciate in others.

Easels all set up and ready for our first set of artist.

The other core part of or sessions are that all out paintings are adaptable to the direction the artist wants to take it. Not keen on green? You can go red. More a horse person than deer?

The basic foundations of the painting are the same. Create depth using shades of light in the background to dark in the foreground. Give the impression of leaves or blossom using a dabbing technique.

The final touch was to use a stencil I’d prepared earlier for the subject, Everything from stags to unicorns and ballet dancers were chosen and gently stencilled in.

At the end of the night was terrific. My first set of artists gave me lots of great feedback and all said they were planning on coming to the next one.
